You can recognize the parasite in the photo? For those who responded : " of course! That is clearly a Plasmodium falciparum! Also called malaria parasite!”, good, you guessed it! For those who have no idea what they are talking about, here is the unicellular protozoan that is the basis of why you have to take antimalarial prophylaxis when you travel to tropical countries!
This parasitosis is one of the most widespread in the world and despite the fact that mortality has decreased in recent years, the variety of symptoms and contagiousness, make malaria a serious threat.
Last 6 October however, the World Health Organization has finally given its authorization for the RTS vaccine,S and its large-scale distribution in order to form a first barrier against this disease. In particular, it is hoped to limit the spread of Plasmodium falciparum (subject of our photo), the deadliest species known to date (Plasmodium vivax, oval, malaria, simiovale, knowlesi e falciparum). This vaccine that comes 130 years after the discovery of plasmodium, and then 30 years of studies, unfortunately it is only moderately effective, preventing about the 30% of severe cases of malaria later 4 injections given to children under 5 years. Probably 30% that may seem like a very low number, but this translates into the potential to save up to 23,000 lives a year.

Finally part of the #Nobel prize for physics is awarded to experts in the field of climatology. 🎓🌍📣
Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann contributed significantly to the development of #climate modeling, paving the way for modern climate models which are the main tool for understanding and predicting climate change.
🇮🇹 And it also goes to Giorgio Parisi, for his work on understanding complex systems, including the climate.
Just in time for # COP26 to be held later this month in Glasgow, where negotiations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will take place.

Study the center of the earth? Have new points

Study the center of the earth? Having new points of view regarding the primordial space? Exploring Psyche, NASA hopes to be able to answer (at least in part) to these answers!
This asteroid orbits a 450 millions of km from the sun and what makes it special is not its appearance but what it has inside! Unlike other asteroids that contain the 30-60% of metals in them and are mainly rocks and ice, based on previous analyzes it seems that Psyche contains up to 90% of metals. Inoltre, there is also another factor that makes this asteroid peculiar; while the planets closest to the sun (Mercury, Venus and Earth) they are all rich in iron oxide, Psyche does not have this element in its rocks!
Discovering the origin of Psyche could reveal a great deal about the history of our universe, in fact if it does not come from the solar system, what is his native position? Inoltre, Furthermoreossible that this unique conformation could be the center of an ancient planet that over time has been reduced only to its core by collisions with other planets?
We hope that these and other questions can be answered thanks to the Psyche mission which will start in August 2022 and which will orbit the asteroid for two years mapping the surface, taking pictures and looking for signs of a magnetic field.
