☀️ The sun certainly isn't missing during this period

☀️ There is certainly no shortage of sun during this period and we know well that it is important to protect our skin from sunburn.
But how are sunscreens chosen?

The guidelines of the dermatology societies, tra cui l'Accademia Americana di Dermatologia (AAD), they recommend products that offer broad-spectrum protection (i.e. UVA and UVB, 100-400 nm), che siano resistenti all'acqua e al sudore e che abbiano un fattore di protezione (SPF) equal to or greater than 30.

🤒 "I'm not well today, I have a fever". We've heard it said a thousand times and we've probably said it several times ourselves. However it would be more correct to say (most of the time):"ho l'influenza, oppure ho un'infezione". L'innalzamento della temperatura corporea infatti, namely fever (that you have come on 37,5 degrees up) è una risposta dell'organismo all'invasione da parte di un virus o di un batterio. It serves to stimulate the immune system, both innate and adaptive. It also creates an environment hostile to pathogens, as it neither limits the speed of replication.

Fever up to 40 degrees is not dangerous and is even beneficial, there is evidence that it increases survival following infections. Of course the situation changes, and in those cases you must contact your doctor, if the fever exceeds 40 gradi, it is persistent, respiratory complications arise, convulsions, heachache, stiffness in the neck...or when the subject has chronic pre-existing conditions. To reduce complications of this type, particularly in minors 6 years, in the overs 65 and in people at risk, it is always good to get vaccinated!

☀️ What happens to our body when the heat becomes too much?

🔥 To maintain the internal temperature at an acceptable level the body redistributes warm blood from the internal organs towards the peripheral areas. Capillaries beneath the surface of the skin fill with blood and vasodilate. Sweat begins to evaporate, lowering the temperature of the skin and at the same time cooling the blood underneath. The cooled blood returns to the internal organs to lower their temperature. And the cycle continues.

🥵 As the body works to keep the temperature low, the heart rate increases to increase peripheral circulation and blood pressure consequently lowers. At this point two things could happen: thermal stress or heat stroke.

To prevent it, it is important to follow a series of rules, especially during heat waves. It is important to stay hydrated by drinking fresh water, eat fruit, wear a hat to protect your head, take cool showers if necessary, apply sunscreen with UVA protection if you are in the sun and avoid physical exercise during the hottest hours of the day (generally from 11 all 15.00).

Minerva interviewed the bioethicist @silviacamporesibioetica Silvia Camporesi, Professor of Sports Integrity and Ethics at the University of Leuven in Belgium, she is part of the Ethics External Advisory Board of WADA and is the author of “Partire (s)advantaged: bionic bodies and genetically modified athletes” for @fandangolibri (2023).

We asked Silvia Camporesi:

The “ozone hole” is a thinning

The “ozone hole” is a thinning of the ozone layer, particularly marked on the polar regions. The ozone layer (a molecule made up of three oxygen atoms) is found between 20 and 30km altitude and has the ability to absorb ultraviolet radiation (UV) coming from the Sun.

Since the seventies, extensive studies have been conducted on this layer of the atmosphere and its worrying degeneration since the eighties led to its ratification - in 1987- del Protocollo di Montreal per la graduale eliminazione della produzione di sostanze responsabili dell'impoverimento dello strato di ozono.

Much of the charm of the planet Saturn lies

Much of the charm of the planet Saturn lies in the rings that surround it and which are one of its main characteristics that make us remember it from school. Some NASA research reveals that the rings may be a relatively young acquisition and that they surround the older planet 4 billion years since less than 100 milioni di anni. If Saturn were a charming man in his forties, he would have had his “treasure” of rings for less than a year.

The most surprising news, however, is that Saturn is losing its rings at a rate that will see them vanish in the next few years. 300millions of yearsi.

The rings are mainly made up of pieces of ice ranging in size from dust to rocks of a few meters. These icy fragments are held in the rings to balance the planet's gravitational pull, which attracts them to the surface, and the centrifugal force caused by the rotational speed of their orbit, which would push them away by throwing them into space.

When the smaller fragments are electrically charged, for example from ultraviolet sunlight, they become more sensitive to the planet's electromagnetic field; the balance of forces is upset and the small pieces of ice rain on the surface along the lines of force of the magnetic field itself.

Once the ice reaches the atmosphere it evaporates and the resulting water vapor reacts with the ionosphere increasing the life and persistence of some ions (3H+) which when hit by sunlight shine in the infrared range.

As beautiful as this graph is, al punto da poterlo considerare un'opera d'arte, what it shows is worrying. Rappresenta l'anomalia di temperatura dal 1850 to 2023, in questo caso per l'Italia. Ogni striscia verticale rappresenta un anno.

E' palese quale sia la tendenza degli ultimi 2-3 decenni. Questo è un fatto sul quale non c'è margine di discussione. E non ci stupiremmo se un giorno questo grafico venisse mostrato in un museo e qualcuno chiedesse all'autore:
